time cubes

“Time Cubes” explores the cyclical nature of emotional experience – the wounding and healing of the soul – and the maturity that emerges from this process. Two concrete cubes, one textured to represent “wound” and the other “healing,” are presented as interactive elements within the exhibition space. The weight of the cubes necessitates a physical engagement from the audience, transforming them into active participants. As visitors rearrange the cubes, their movements become a performative expression of their personal relationship with these concepts. The act of lifting, carrying, and positioning these heavy blocks reflects the effort and intention involved in confronting and processing emotional wounds. The varying arrangements chosen by each individual reveal a unique narrative of acceptance, denial, or the selective embrace of healing. This interactive experience offers a powerful reflection on the emotional journeys we undertake, inviting contemplation on the passage of time and the transformative power of both pain and recovery. While originally conceived for an indoor gallery setting, the core themes of “Time Cubes”—emotional resilience, the weight of experience, and the passage of time—resonate deeply with the natural world and the cyclical processes of growth and decay. The use of concrete, a material both robust and elemental, further emphasizes the enduring nature of these emotional cycles within the human experience and their connection to the enduring presence of the natural world.
